Pin Mode for new interaction across Microsoft Surface products
As a product manager at Microsoft, I am responsible for the product experience of Surface’s Touch Keyboard. This project solves the problem, inability using the virtual keyboard when users switch between different software (light editing-browsing).

The Windows OS of Surface products are targeting at iPad OS. Specifically, the soft keyboard of iPad OS has better performance in keyboard invokation policy. Every time users tap the input box, the keyboard would appear automatically withou any delay. However, in Windows OS, the keyboard doesn't respond to the IP when users are operating in Tablet Mode, which means that IP doesn't equal to SIP in Windows OS. I found out this problem as a PM in Windows team and seek for a proper solution.

Through digging data above this Surface model, all key insights are shown above. Meanwhile most targeted users have difficulty in invoking the touch keyboard when they switch among several applications. For User tasks, I asked them to finish 1 round swith task (Browser & Line), the average used time is 32.4 seconds(keyboard invokation), which means the delay is 24.6s (each time)

Customers use their Surface Go for browsing and light-weight editing in turns. Every time when they open the same editing application, tapping to invoke SIP causes delays. The overall strategy is "Input through Put", which means the solution should not disrupt the user bahaviours but improve user experience.

The new solution focuses on switch scenarios by testing and aligning most of Microsoft softwares. The key idea is to make it attachable, customizable and adaptable, in order to realize this feature in future devices.
